Leadership and influence in Student Services: call for session proposals

We’re looking for contributors to lead sessions at our online event about leadership and influence in Student Services. This is an opportunity for you to share your examples of good practice in student support and engagement, and how your skills as a leader have influenced positive change.

Leading a session at our event is a good way to share good practice, explore new ideas with colleagues, and develop your professional confidence and standing. If your proposal for a session is accepted, each session leader and co-presenter will get a free place to attend the entire event.

Please submit your session proposals by 10:00 (BST) on Friday 5 April 2024.

What should my session be about?

We’re looking for 30 minute sessions (presentations, workshops or discussions) about:

  • Projects or interventions in any area of Student Services that you’ve led to develop support services and enhance the student experience.
  • How you’ve influenced good practice through collaboration, with colleagues across the university and/or working with other sector partners and the wider community.
  • How you’ve developed your leadership skills and drawn on your expertise to lead and influence positive change.

You can draw on examples from your own professional development journey, or discuss case studies of your projects or interventions.

Your session should include time for questions and answers (at least five minutes).

Your session will be delivered online in a Zoom meeting format. You can use presentations, videos or online interaction tools (such as Slido or Mentimeter) to make your session as engaging as possible. The event team will help you with the setup and running of your session.

How many speakers can take part in a session?

In our experience two speakers is the right number for a 30 minute session, so we recommend that. Please consider whether the number of co-presenters is appropriate for your session to ensure everyone has time to contribute.

How does AMOSSHE decide which proposals to accept?

The event team will carefully consider all session proposals, and choose the successful proposals by asking the following questions:

  • Is the session engaging, informative, inspiring?
  • Is the session relevant to Student Services professionals and current priorities for the sector?
  • Does the session engage with the event themes?
  • Will the session contribute to AMOSSHE members’ continuing professional development?

Your session proposal should answer these questions satisfactorily.
